Product Name: American Mineralab Mohs Hardness Tester / Mohs Hardness Pen Set
Brand: American MINERALAB
Model: Mohs 2-9 Grades
Specification: HARDNESS PICKS (Multiple Hardness Levels)
Packaging: DELUXE (Deluxe Set)
Dimensions: Approximately 70*43*190mm (Length*Width*Height)
Total Weight: Approximately 0.5KG (Including wooden case, hardness pens, and auxiliary testing accessories)
Testing Range: Mohs 1-10 Grades, Note: (Mohs Grade 1 and Grade 10 are edge values and do not require testing; above Grade 9 is Grade 10, below Grade 2 is Grade 1).
Instrument Function: Used for distinguishing Mohs hardness and performing scratch tests on the surfaces of various products and materials.
I. Advantages: Compared to traditional mineral-type Mohs hardness testers, its greatest advantage is that traditional mineral-type test heads can easily shatter if improperly held, used with incorrect force during testing, or dropped on the ground, rendering that grade of hardness pen unusable for further testing.
This imported American set features alloy test heads of different Mohs hardness levels, which are sturdy and durable. During testing or if dropped, the test heads will not shatter, ensuring longevity. The test heads for different Mohs hardness levels contain no mineral impurities, providing more accurate hardness testing.
II. Standard Configuration of the American Mineralab Mohs Hardness Tester:
1. Four dual-test head Mohs hardness pens: Grades 2 to 9, labeled according to Mohs hardness as follows:
Red mark: Mohs Grades 2 and 3; Yellow mark: Mohs Grades 4 and 5; Green mark: Mohs Grades 6 and 7; Blue mark: Mohs Grades 8 and 9.
2. Mohs 5.5 Grade scratch plate: Mohs hardness 5.5. Scratching the tested object on this plate quickly distinguishes between hard and soft minerals.
3. Low hardness scratch plates: Mohs hardness values: Mohs 3.5 and Mohs 2.5.
4. Sanding strip: Used to sharpen the pen tips when they become dull after prolonged use, maintaining sharpness for testing.
5. White scratch plate: Used for outdoor rock and mineral testing to observe color stratification after scratching, analyzing sedimentary colors of rocks.
6. Black magnet: Used during rock and stone exploration to quickly identify magnetic minerals, such as magnetite and pyrrhotite.
7. Document 1: Reference table of natural mineral hardness (in English).
8. Document 2: Complete instruction manual for this Mohs hardness tester set (in English).
9. Elegant wooden protective case: The wooden case consists of upper and lower parts. The pen caps can be removed and attached to the back of the case using golden screws to prevent loss.
III. Operation Method: Hold the pen like a writing instrument at approximately 70 degrees to the ground. Press the tip of the graded hardness pen and perform a scratch test on the surface of the object being tested, drawing a line about 20mm long. Determine the relative Mohs hardness level of the object by observing whether a dent (destructive scratch) appears.
